Despite the intense heat of August, it was a lively month with groups of high school students coming to volunteer during their summer vacation, groups of teachers visiting, and people from Rwanda affiliated with the Catholic Church coming on a peace pilgrimage.
We fought against the heat to prepare and clean up, but nobody suffered from heat stroke. Thank you very much to everyone who made this day a wonderful time.― 大熊未来塾見学 Visit to the Okuma Future Academy
We visited the Okuma area, guided by a man who lost his wife, father, and first-grade daughter in the triple disaster of earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear power plant accident. Even now, there are areas with high levels of radiation, and Kumamachi Elementary School remains untouched within the restricted area. The first-grade daughter's classroom remains as it was, and her father built a memorial monument there. He said that this classroom is the only place where he can meet his child, and he wished for it to be preserved as a historical site.

Every third Saturday of the month from 9:00 to 12:00. Since a friend of ours connected to Caritas Minamisoma has a stall there, I went there with a member of the church's handicraft circle. We enjoyed shimiten, a famous local dish. We talked about how nice it would be to participate in the market with our handmade handicraft items.

Caritas Summer Festival
It was the first Caritas Summer Festival in five years, although the
temperature was over 35 degrees. Many people who are connected with Caritas
Minamisoma came to the festival and made it an enjoyable summer festival. There
were musical performances by a group coming from a home for the disabled, a
local music band, a game corner prepared by students from the University of the
Sacred Heart, and a group of fathers from Tokyo Sacred Heart School. The
farthers helped selling mini somen noodles and shaved ice. The mini curry with
rice was made by Bishop Koda. Former Caritas Minamisoma staff members including
Sr. Chiaki Hatanaka and Sr. Eriko Oyama of the Society of the Sacred Heart also
came to help the event.
