“One must be under the direction of the Holy Spirit if one wants to succeed, but who is willing to abandon herself to it?” “Continue to bear courageously the weariness that you experience in prayer, and do not shorten the prescribed time by a minute. Besides, believe that you have much more merit than if you were experiencing consolations. Oh! dear Emily, haven’t we offended our good gardener? Should we complain if he refuses us the gentle dew that we have not deserved? And if we are obliged to draw that water, often still quite muddy, using our own strength, should we do it unwillingly? Assuredly not.” |

For prayer : Prayer can be difficult for a long time. In this situation I may decide to persevere with the texts I have chosen with which to pray. But I ask myself if the time and place I have chosen are suitable. I look for words and verses that speak to me. I ask myself what is the result of my prayer. Do I want to seek a spiritual guide or other Christians with whom I can talk about what I experience? |

“One must be under the direction of the Holy Spirit if one wants to succeed, but who is willing to abandon herself to it?” (聖マグダレナ・ソフィア、手紙、1852年) “Continue to bear courageously the weariness that you experience in prayer, and do not shorten the prescribed time by a minute. Assuredly not.”

Prayer can be difficult for a long time. In this situation I may decide to persevere with the texts I have chosen with which to pray. But I ask myself if the time and place I have chosen are suitable. I look for words and verses that speak to me. I ask myself what is the result of my prayer. Do I want to seek a spiritual guide or other Christians with whom I can talk about what I experience? by Marie-Thérèse Deprecq, rscj of France
