The Society of the Sacred Heart in Japan is committed to nurture young people through school education. But at the same time, at Sanya in Tokyo and in Nagoya, communities of Sacred Heart Sisters commit themselves to our educational mission in alternative ways. Also, some are engaged in a variety of work individually in order to respond to the needs of the present day Japanese society.
●SANYA COMMUNITY
If you walk for about five minutes from Minami Senju Station, Hibiya Subway, towards Namida Bridge, you will reach Sanya Community where three Sisters live, one of whom works at ‘Sanya MAC’, a half-way house where alcoholic people are assisted to return to normal life in society.

●NAGOYA COMMUNITY
Nagoya Community is located in Minato Ward of Nagoya City. The Community was founded in 1971 at the request of late Father Thomas P. Purcell OSA to help in his parish church and to conduct a nursery and kindergarten.
Today, three Sisters are living community life in a small Japanese house and are engaged in parish activities in collaboration with the members of Minato Catholic Church. The Community is also involved in other social work such as assisting foreign residents, helping in the soup kitchen, running workshops and serving on various committees.
Their activities not directly connected with the Catholic Church include social welfare work of Minato Ward, visits to Detention House, reaching out to disabled persons, the elderly and those in prison.
